What is ALTHEA
ALTHEA elevates peri-urban areas at the centre of Europe’s transition to climate neutrality.
Based on the Transition Super Living Lab approach, the project gathers regional stakeholders to turn peri-urban territories into dynamic testing grounds where innovation, collaboration and digital tools support systemic change.
ALTHEA helps Mission Cities develop and implement cross-sectoral solutions that are aligned with their Climate City Contracts. It also supports them in shaping long-term strategies and Local Green Deals that connect urban and peri-urban spaces in a mutually beneficial way.
Through a strong multi-level governance approach, ALTHEA empowers local authorities, businesses, researchers and communities to co-design climate neutral pathways that work in real-life and across entire regions.
Where ALTHEA works
ALTHEA brings together five Transition Super Living Labs and three replicator sites, working different functional peri-urban areas:

These territories represent diverse peri-urban realities. Together they form a shared learning ecosystem that helps cities test, scale, and replicate solutions for climate neutrality.

New approaches that connect peri urban and urban areas through accessible, low carbon and integrated mobility systems.
Decarbonised energy systems
Solutions that increase local renewable production, energy efficiency, and smart management across regions.
Zero pollution industry
Actions that support cleaner, circular and environmentally responsible industrial activity in peri urban zones.
Cross sectoral governance
New models that strengthen collaboration across sectors, institutions and territories for coordinated climate action.
